Roving Reporter

Just wanted to let everybody know that the Knit Nook got in their first order of roving from Sheep Shop Yarn Co, aka Sheep Spin. I've been begging pleading asking enthusiastically for them to get some more spinning stuff in for a while now, and I conveniently happened to be there last week when the yarn rep was in the shop. I just goes to show that pestering persistence pays off!

I'll be back tomorrow with pictures!

Super Shawl Shimmy

After I took the Lace Leaf off the needles yesterday, I didn't put it back on the needles right away because I knew it was a job that would require some concentration. After Iris went to sleep, I started to get it back on, only to have the needle come up missing. I decided to cast on for new socks rather than hunt up the missing needle, but letting that shawl sit with all those naked, loose stitches made me uneasy all day. I turned the living room upside down tonight, found the prodigal needle, and got the shawl back on. Phew! All is right with the world.

Or rather, it would be if I hadn't realized after re-needling that I actually need to frog two more rows than I did. So it all has to come off again, and the cycle begins anew. I am comforted by the fact that it could always be worse. So much worse!

In other shawl related news, I ordered the Lotus Blossom Shawl pattern from Fiddlesticks Knits. It's definitely the most I've ever paid for a pattern, and I don't mind telling you that it's driving me crazy that there's no option to download it as a PDF. It's not just a matter of the internet spoiling me with instant pattern gratification (even though it totally has!) I like having the security of the PDF saved to my hard drive. Around here, a lot can go wrong with a printed pattern! I could scan it into the computer myself, but buying it in PDF format is just so much more convenient! But, the shawl is gorgeous and I have some yarn here that just screams Lotus Blossom to me. (Hint: New yarn, not my Pigeonroof Studios. Not yet, my precioussss.) I've heard about the greatness of Fiddlesticks charts, so maybe it will be worth the pain of waiting for snail mail after all.

While I'm waiting for my pattern to get here (and avoiding taking Lace Leaf off the needles to frog AGAIN) I'm swatching, swatching, swatching. If you're not a rabid Sundara fan, you might have missed this great post about lace yarn and needle sizes- check it out! Good stuff!

From Tara: "Wow!  How can you survive with all the clutter!  It reminds me of my co-worker’s office (keep in mind I am claustrophobic!)."

Believe it or not, I prefer order to chaos 90% of the time. The problem is that I don’t seem to have been gifted with the mind of an organized person. If you think that’s bad… well, let me say that there’s a reason I didn’t post pictures of my desk drawers. A very, very good reason.

The Incredible Vanishing Knitter

Now you see her… now you don’t!

Dear Everyone I Knit With,

I probably haven’t seen you for at least a couple of weeks now. I’m really sorry. I’m sure you understand better than anyone else that it pains me deeply to miss out on knitting, especially when the knitting takes place in the company of people I enjoy. I don’t want anybody to think that I’m deliberately avoiding them, so I just wanted to warn you that my attendance at knitting nights will probably be sporadic for the next few months.

The reason I’m missing knitting is that my job is offering me and Bob unlimited overtime hours for an unspecified amount of time, and we really want to take advantage of the extra income while we can. In the long run, this will be a really great thing, because it’s going to enable us to pay off some lingering bills and  (finally) start putting some money back, but I’m going to be sacrificing a lot of my social time in order to work.

I’m not planning on disappearing altogether. I mean, seriously, how long do you think I can stay away from a yarn store? I’m planning on doing Wednesday nights at Sophie’s every other week, Thursday nights at The Knit Nook on the alternating week, and Sunday afternoons every week that I can manage it. And I’ll still be knitting and blogging whenever I can. I actually feel a little arrogant posting an apology letter for not being at knitting nights (because do I really think you are all crying into your pillows from missing me?), but I figured this would be the politest and most efficient way of letting y’all know where I am.

I’ll for sure be at Sophie’s next Wednesday for the First Annual Knot Too Tightly Wound Secret Santa Gift Exchange Extravaganza (this is now the official title.) So don’t go disowning me yet! You don’t know, I might have drawn your name!
